Sweetgrass Productions, “Solitaire” Premiere

So I headed down to Denver for the premiere of the new Sweetgrass film, “Solitaire”. It was an awesome premiere and the place sold out, which was rad! I got to catch up with all the old faces from South America and was a great night all around…. Here are some photos from the night! Enjoy!

South America Adventures

Hey everyone….. so I am down in South America right now doing some skiing in the Las Lenas region…. I have been filming with Sweetgrass Productions and shooting photos with Jay Beyer…. the snow here has been sub par, but hopefully will improve soon.. We may be headed off to Bariloche because the snow has been a bit better down there….. here are a few pics from the trip so far.. Enjoy!!!! Chris

Haines!!!!!

Hey there just about to head to Haines, Alaska with the boys from Powderwhore!!!! I am headed up there with Nick Devore, Will Cardamone, Andy Jacobsen, Noah Howell, and Jay Beyer.

We are going to be flying with Drake, from fly by night I believe…. He is hopefully going to take us up to some good zones. We plan on camping for about 2 weeks and hopefully getting some really good weather, and snow…
I will be occasionally posting, but hopefully we will be skiing most of the time we are there!!!

I am going to be bringing a go-pro, from the friends at Adventure Eye Video Systems who hooked me up, so once I get back I will be putting together a little edit that you will be able to check out on Black Diamonds website.

1st Place in Alpine Meadows Competition!!!!!!!

Hey everybody, just got back from an awesome trip to Alpine Meadows with my good friend Will Cardamone. We started our trip last Wednesday and headed on the train from Glenwood Springs out to Truckee, California for the Alpine Meadows Telemark Freeskiing Championships. Will and I had taken the train before and we had just loved it, so we decided it would be a cool and easy way to get out to Tahoe. It was awesome playing cards, watching movies and eating in the dining car, such an easy way to travel, I definitely recommend it.

After riding through the night on the train we arrived in Truckee at around 9:30 in the morning and got picked up by Will’s sister Kate and she gave us a ride up to Alpine Meadows… We got settled in and headed to the mountain about mid day to check out the venue and get some turns under our legs after the long train ride. It was nice to check out the venue and get a good idea of what we wanted to ski in the comp, we were psyched for the comp for sure.

After a great night of sleep at the awesome Rent’a Wreck Mansion that Megan Michelson mom hooked up for us cheap tele skiers, we were ready for a good day at the comp. By the way Evans, Megan’s mom was awesome she fed over 30 tele skiers each night at the competition and provided us with a place to stay, she was so awesome and we thank her so much. After day one I had a solid run, with no bobbles and stomped all my landings and it put me in 3rd place going into the final day. Will was sitting in 5th, so we both had chances to move up in the standings. We had a great dinner that night with the whole tele crew, and put our heads down so we could be ready for the final day.

We woke up Saturday morning to beautiful skies and were psyched for todays comp. Unfortunately we were put on the same venue as the day before because of poor conditions on the Buttress. It was alright though, I already had a good line and I was psyched to ski it again. On my first run I flew through the venue stomping all my lines and skiing fast and fluid through my whole run, which scored me the highest run of the day. Weather was moving in and they almost called it, but decided the top 5 men and top 3 women would head back up for a super final run. When they called off the names I was to run last on the list, which meant I was sitting in 1st place…. it was crazy I was psyched I just had to do the same thing again.

Airing

After everyone before me ran the weather started to get real bad, and I waited for about 15 minutes up top, until finally there was an opening. I skied the top real well and then came into the keyhole with some speed, hopped into my bottom air and landed with a bit of bobble and then pulled myself up. It wasn’t my best run of the comp, but was still solid. Although you never know with a judged event so I wasn’t sure where I would end up.

After some beers and chillin’ in the lodge, they started the awards ceremony. They went through the junior men and women, then women and men. Kate skied 3 awesome runs and she came in 2nd in the ladies, which was awesome for her.

Then they started calling the men, from top 5. They started to go through with Eben Mond in 5th, Paul Kimbrough in 4th, J.T. Robinson in 3rd, Will Cardamone in 2nd, and me in the top spot! It was an awesome experience to finally come in first. It was definitely the best comp I ever skied and it showed.

After having an awesome party that night with all the tele rippers, Will and I woke up to catch the train down in Truckee back home. It was an awesome adventure for the both of us, and the train was just so easy to get out to Tahoe area. I would recommend the train to anyone travelling where Amtrak goes through, its easy, fun, and not to expensive.

Well it was an awesome trip for the train boys, we skied well and took public transportation, as well as coming in First and Second! Until next time.
